5 Things That Fortnite Copied From Other Games

Did you ever notice that some games have almost the same features and mechanics just like Fortnite, that they might have copied from Fortnite? That is not the case, but it is the other way around. We all know that Fortnite has been at the top of the food chain of the online gaming industry. But what you didn’t know is that they took bits and pieces of the best features or mechanics from other games and added or refined them into theirs.

The 5 Things That Fortnite Copied

Some of them are too obvious and the others are subtle. We all know the Save the World game mode in Fortnite. Well, if Fortnite had not copied other games, that is all you would know Fortnite for and Fortnite would never have been as popular as they are right now. Let us check the 5 things that Fortnite copied from other games.

1. PINGS And REBOOT (Apex Legends)

Who here remembers that early Fortnite didn’t have pings, reboot cars, or vans? Early Fortnite did not have a ping system in-game or reboot system in-game, either. They added the ping system and reboot system around March 2019. Also, Apex Legends just launched on February 4th, 2019, and they were the first game to introduce the ping and reboot system. Coincidence, I don’t think so! Fortnite copied the ping and reboot system to the game just less than a month after the Apex Legends launched.

The ping system allows you to ping loots, enemies, and map items just like in Apex Legends and the reboot system is almost identical just that they changed the names from respawn to reboot, and instead of a respawn card and respawn beacon, Fortnite added reboot cards and reboot vans.

2. Battle Royale (PUBG)

This is the biggest thing Fortnite copied from another game. Without this, Fortnite would have been the only Save the World and they would not have blown up, ever! Just right after PUBG launched in March 2017, Epic launched a new game mode called Battle Royale on their platform. PUBG was the creator of Battle Royale, but Fortnite is now the face of Battle Royale, earning them millions and billions.

That left PUBG no choice but to take Epic to court. The lawsuit has been settled but PUBG is nowhere near happy with it. It is not fair right Fortnite is making millions of someone’s ideas. However, Fortnite refurbished and updated the battle royale system with builds, edits, cars, and so many more.

3. Emotes and Skins

No point in saying that emotes and skins are one of Fortnite’s biggest ideas. As they provided lots of fun skins and emotes for the players all while making money off them. Fortnite has the biggest emotes and skin archives than any other game, but not all the emotes and skin that they put in their game was an idea that originated from them. Among some of the copied emotes and skins, here are some of them.

The Merry Marauder skin on Fortnite was a copy of Gingerbread Exo Skin from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

  • The Reese skin from Fortnite looks like Zarya from Overwatch.
  • The Axiom Skin from Fortnite is almost identical to Cyclops from The X-Men.

Aside from just skins, they also copied some dances and used them as emotes. Here are some of them.

  • The Fresh emote on Fortnite is the exact copy of the dance from Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
  • The Flossing emotes from Fortnite were copied from a kid named Russel Hornig who created the dance.

There are so many more and if you would like to know more, let me know in the comments so I can make a list of all the skins and emote that Fortnite copied.

4. Among US Games Mode (Among US)

We all know among us right, the game that took the world by storm during the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone was playing it and it was one of the highlights of that year. Also, you Flossing might have seen the among us Fortnite game mode. Epic shamelessly copied the among-us gameplay.

It has the same everything from, one player (imposter) is meant to kill the workers, the map, the name of the tasks, and the rooms. That was beneath Epic Games, to be making money off someone else’s idea again after all the past lawsuits.

5. Gold and Bounties Is Another Thing, Fortnite Copied

We all love Call of Duty: Warzone, with its almost realistic battle royal system and mechanics. We also love the cash and bounty mechanic that Warzone has. This is a mechanism that allows players to get cash for completing bounties by eliminating other players and then using the cash to make a purchase.

Well, just 9 months after Warzone launched, Fortnite added Gold and Bounties into their game in Chapter 2 Season 5. This is the same thing just that they have changed the cash to gold bars.
