Youth Enterprise Development with LiveWIRE Nigeria
LiveWIRE Nigeria is a dynamic youth enterprise development program generously supported by The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC). The program’s core objectives are:
- Cultivating Entrepreneurial Mindsets: Raise business awareness among final-year university students, encouraging them to view entrepreneurship as a valid career option.
- Ideation and Development: Assist youths in discovering and developing business ideas through engaging Bright Ideas Workshops.
- Business Planning and Management: Provide comprehensive business planning and management guidelines through the Become A Successful Owner Manager Course (BSOM) for those aspiring to start their businesses.
- Recognition and Rewards: Organize awards for the best business plans. Also, granting access to micro-credit facilities through partnerships with banks, NGOs, and allied financial institutions. Also, it recognizes and rewards young entrepreneurs who sustain their businesses for 2 to 3 years with annual awards.
- Mentorship & Resource Center: Establish a volunteer mentoring program drawing mentors from various sectors. Including oil & gas, banking, and social voluntary sectors. Print and provide information on youth enterprise at LiveWIRE Resource Centre, serving as a valuable hub for budding entrepreneurs.
Eligibility Criteria of the LiveWIRE Nigeria Programme
To participate in the LiveWIRE Nigeria Programme, you must:
- Age: 18 – 35 years
- Region: Residents of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, or Akwa-Ibom states
- Qualification: University degree or HND in any discipline
- NYSC: Completed NYSC (if applicable)
- Employment: Not currently employed
- Entrepreneurial spirit: Passionate about starting and managing your own business

The LiveWIRE Nigeria programme is a youth enterprise development initiative designed to achieve these key activities:
- Young Business Leaders Awards: A prestigious cash awards program recognizing young owner-managers who have excelled in business for up to 2 years. Awards focus on progress in production/service, financial growth, employment opportunities generation, and improvements in management strategies.
- Bright Ideas and BSOM Workshops: Engaging workshops designed to stimulate the exchange of ideas, encourage meticulous planning for viable business ideas, and provide a solid foundation for starting businesses. Outstanding participants from Bright Ideas Workshops have the opportunity to complete the BSOM training workshop, opening avenues for awards and/or micro-credit through partner organizations.
- Business Awareness Forum: An introductory forum offering basic insights into enterprise for graduating university students. Identified potential business owners will receive further assistance through a short BSOM course.
- Business Information and Enquiry Service: Providing Business Opportunities Profiles (BOPs) to introduce young people to the requirements for starting specific businesses. Including capital, legalities, technical and human resources, and market opportunities.
